Macbook Baby!

Hells yeah. Got my Blackbook, 1Gb RAM (stock, don't worry, it'll grow soon), 160Gb HDD, 2.2GHz C2D, Santa Rosa (!!!), GMA x3100, blah, you know. It's freakin fast. Jeah. Decided against the Pro, correctly, I think. MB's smaller, a bit more comfy. We'll see, but I don't think I'll be disappointed. I'm so happy.

My new MBP will be expensive...

This is ri-damn-diculous. Macbook Pro. Glossy or matte. Seriously. I can't decide. I mean, I CANNOT decide. Period. A web search does nothing but collect dozens upon dozens of forum strings full of viscous arguments. That, and the same information over and over: glossy looks nice, great color & contrast, but lots of annoying reflections; matte looks okay, not as sharp or colorful, but no reflection problem. That's it. No more hard info. Just opinions. And yes, I've been to an Apple store to look at both side-by-side. I keep finding myself leaning toward glossy, then I read some scathing rip about the horrible glare that will give you headaches for life and kill your firstborn. On the other hand, matte has horrible, dull color and is garbage. I know glossy can't be that bad, but doesn't it seem like it must be pretty bad to make these people speak against it so strongly? We're talking 2500 smackers here. Crap. Ideas? (that I haven't heard?)...

Apple Store Opening-07.21.07

Well, I was fortunate enough to be at the grand opening of the new Apple Store in Ann Arbor; being only 40 minutes away from my lame location of Toledo, this is basically my first Apple Store. It was awesome, the employees were great, and oh crap, holy crow, I TOUCHED AN IPHONE. I touched it WITH MY HANDS. I pinched, I flicked, and I had no idea that I could have wanted one more than I did already, but so help me, I do. I know that it would be wise to wait for v2 (at least), and there’s no way that I can really afford one now anyway, and I’m sure that there are dozens of other reasons that should make me feel better about not having one, but I don’t care about any of that, I just want one. Crap.

tv's vs. monitors-wtf?

I went to the electronics store the other day to look at a TV, and I must reluctantly admit to being confused. I like to believe that I’m fairly tech savvy, but this is truly puzzling, and it’s something that I’m not come across, anywhere. Why are widescreen TV’s (as well as films, for that matter) made with a width-to-height ratio of 16x9, yet “widescreen” computer monitors have a ratio of 16x10? They’re even touted as "16x10 widescreen" displays. The resolution on the pc monitors even matches a 16x10 ratio, so if you watch a 16x9 movie on your computer, there are thin black bars on the top & bottom. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t have much of a problem with black bars, as I have been dealing with them for years in order to watch movies in widescreen on standard TV’s, but this seems a little silly. If the industry is moving towards embracing the idea of widescreen, as it seems to be, then why not embrace one ratio? Is it somehow cheaper to produce the higher resolution, smaller monitors in the 16x10? I don’t see how this is possible, but what do I know. All I know is it makes no sense to me. I saw a 22” widescreen “TV” in an electronics store circular, and it was clearly a PC monitor with an atsc tuner strapped to the back. It was even advertised as a "16x10, 1680x1050"(clearly monitor stats) res. “TV.” Sorry, but that’s not a TV. Any input or ideas would be greatly appreciated.
